What is it?

As a list, this is how I view Autism:

  • It is a brain disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate, form relationships with others or respond to surroundings.
  • It is unclear what causes it and best estimates say it is probably a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
  • It knows no boundaries and effects people of all racial, ethnic and social backgrounds.
  • It manifests in a wide range of forms with differing severity hence spectrum
  • There is no medical test (e.g. blood test or diagnostic scan) that can diagnose the disorder.
  • There is no cure (but early intervention can help minimise symptoms)
